چکیده

Synchrotron infrared reflectance and absorbance spectroscopy reveals a cascading sequence of pressure-induced Fermi resonances in compressed H2O and D2O ices up to and through the transition to the symmetric hydrogen-bonded phase. These resonances arise from the extremely large pressure shift of the O-H(D) stretching mode associated with the transition, which causes multiple avoided crossings between this and other infrared-active vibrational states. The highest frequency LO mode has a minimum at the transition, and the LO-TO splitting increases dramatically in the highpressure phase. Fano-like features are present in absorbance even in the absence of mode coupling. [S0031-9007(97)03301-2]

Anatomy of the Akhmediev breather: Cascading instability, first formation time, and Fermi-Pasta-Ulam recurrence.

By invoking Bogoliubov's spectrum, we show that for the nonlinear Schrödinger equation, the modulation instability (MI) of its n=1 Fourier mode on a finite background automatically triggers a further cascading instability, forcing all the higher modes to grow exponentially in locked step with the n=1 mode. This fundamental insight, the enslavement of all higher modes to the n=1 mode, explains t...

گرم کردن پلاسما با امواج برنشتاین الکترونی از طریق واگردانی امواج عادی و فراعادی درلایه UHR

Magnetically confined plasma can be heated with high power microwave sources. In spherical torus the electron plasma frequency exeeds the electron cyclotron frequency (EC) and, as a consequence, electromagnetic waves at fundamental and low harmonic EC cannot propagate within the plasma. In contrast, electron Bernstein waves (EBWs) readily propagate in spherical torus plasma and are absorbed str...

Multi-frequency piezomagnetoelastic energy harvesting in the monostable mode

The present article investigates effects of the multi-frequency excitation on the output power of a piezomagnetoelastic energy harvester. The piezomagnetoelastic power generator is assumed to operate in the mono-stable mode. A perturbation technique based on the method of multiple scales is employed to develop an analytical solution to nonlinear differential equations governing the system dynam...

Bosons and Fermions near Feshbach resonances

Near Feshbach resonances, n|a|3 ≫ 1, systems of Bose and Fermi particles become strongly interacting/dense. In this unitary limit both bosons and fermions have very different properties than in a dilute gas, e.g., the energy per particle approach a value h̄n2/3/m times an universal many-body constant. Calculations based upon an approximate Jastrow wave function can quantitatively describe recent...

Partial ionization in dense plasmas: comparisons among average-atom density functional models.

Nuclei interacting with electrons in dense plasmas acquire electronic bound states, modify continuum states, generate resonances and hopping electron states, and generate short-range ionic order. The mean ionization state (MIS), i.e, the mean charge Z of an average ion in such plasmas, is a valuable concept: Pseudopotentials, pair-distribution functions, equations of state, transport properties...
